Soccer? Football? Or just standing around in the grass

I had the great pleasure this evening of watching the Ohio County Lady Eagles Soccer Team trample Owensboro Catholic 5-0. I of course went in support of my buddies Bethany Decker and Brandie Hagerman. I went fully expecting to be entertained. Bethany certainly did not disappoint and gave an inspiring performance! I was quite impressed. Now I have to say that I have heard stories about Brandie and her incredible goalie skills; stories of crippling young girls and knocking out teeth!

Here is a picture of Brandie during the game:

Yep. That's our Brandie, wearing her pretty pink shirt. You'll notice, of course that Brandie is standing all alone, with no other humans even in her vicinity. This in fact, is what she did during 95% of the game. I believe she touched the ball something like 6 times. This was not exactly what I was expecting. To be fair however, I missed the first 30 minutes of the game because I had to work late.

All joking aside, Brandie didn't see much action because the Lady Eagles totally dominated their opponents. The few times the ball did come her way, I was very impressed with her agility and skill. Great job by both Brandie and Bethany!

Next game I'd better see some teeth kicking though!

The Difference In Translations

There are many different translations of God's word. Some people feel it's wrong to use anything other than the King James Version and some people find a version they like and stick with it. Personally, for general study I prefer the New International Version, however I will often cross reference with other translations to get a different perspective on a passage. As I was studying tonight for my lesson tomorrow, I came across a great verse that really struck a chord with me. Read it below and really spend a few minutes letting the meaning sink in.

Hebrews 12:1 (New Living Translation)

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

Now one of my favorite translations is The Message. In my opinion it is a very modern version of the Word and can be easily comprehended. Here is the same verse from The Message.

Hebrews 12:1 (The Message)

Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!

Wow! Tell me that isn't awesome! I would encourage you guys to find a translation that you like for your daily bible study, but also to reference other versions to help drive the point home.

Getting back on track

Well it's been a while since I've posted and I'm trying to get back on track with that. I really think this is a good way for me to get information out to you guys. Not very many of you seem to use email and it's a lot easier to type on the computer than it is on my phone. Plus if you check back in here every once in a while, you may be reminded of something you've forgotten. I will do my best to post something at least once a week. I was thinking that I would try to do it on Monday's and could post the prayer requests that you guys mentioned the day before. That way you can pull them up whenever you have your personal prayer time (which I hope you are having).

So...here are some things that I want to remind you of.

1. We need a youth group name. I want you guys to come up with this cause I am not creative enough and you will like it more if it's yours. If you need to, google "youth group names" and look there for ideas

2. Be thinking about what you'd like to do to the youth room. It is your room and it's completely up to you. However, if you want something other than folding chairs, you'll have to help me find it.

3. Don't forget the Third Day concert coming up on October 17th. If you haven't given my your $10 yet, I need it soon.

4. We have a mission project coming up on September 12. We will be working on Bro. Kenny's grandma's house. She really needs some help so I'm really praying that you guys turn out for this. It's a great opportunity to serve and receive a blessing.

5. On September 13 we will start a new Sunday night bible study. The first part of it will be based on the life of Christ. I'm really excited about this and think that you guys will enjoy it.

Youth Camp Update

Ok guys here's an update on youth camp. In case you aren't aware, we will now be going to Camp Schaffer. I went there myself when I was younger (long, long ago) and I have no doubt that God will be moving in a big way there this summer! The dates are July 12-17 (I think. I keep forgetting). The deadline to get in on this is May 31st. If you plan to go or even think you might want to go, you need to tell me by then. The cost is $140 per youth. You've been doing some fundraising for this but out of the 150 cookbooks, I think only 10 have been sold. We need to make a big push on these this coming Sunday. I want volunteers to be in the back of the church after each service peddling cookbooks. We need to get these sold because the money used to buy them came from the t-shirt profits. Hopefully we can raise enough for everyone to go to camp and it won't cost you guys or the youth budget anything, but we have to sell the cookbooks and get a count on who's going so we can see where we are with money.

If you want to go to camp, see me in person, call me, text me, or email me before May 31st. If you want to volunteer to sell cookbooks, give me a shout or see me Sunday morning.

You guys are great,
Cody
